CMS is required by the HITECH act to publish the Eligible Hospitals (EH’s) and Eligible Professionals (EP’s) that have received EHR Incentive Payments by demonstrating Meaningful Use of a certified EHR system. EP’s receiving payments under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program include Doctors of Medicine or Osteopathy, dentists, optometrists, podiatrists, and chiropractors. Recipients are published quarterly and spreadsheets for those receiving payments as of the 3rd quarter of 2012 may be downloaded at:
CMS has released the September 2012 EHR Incentive Program report showing over $7.7B dollars paid out to professionals and hospitals under the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs. CMS has updated the EHR Incentive Program Payments to show who has received payments for demonstrating Meaningful Use of an EHR system. A graph of the combined Medicare and Medicaid Payments by State from January 2011 to July 2012 shows Texas, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio as the top five recipients by a large margin over all other states. CMS announced that more than 110,000 providers and over 3,000 eligible hospitals have been paid by the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. This surpasses the 100,000 provider goal set by CMS Acting Administrator Marilyn Tavenner and National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Farzad Mostashari, M.D., Sc.M. earlier this year.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Servies (CMS) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program March 2012 Report summarizes almost $4.5B paid out from the inception of the program through the end of March 2012. The number of Eligible Professionals (EP’s) registered for the program increased only slightly from 40% at the end of February to 43% at the end of March. Continue reading
